Recent Projects

A summary of recent work undertaken by the Parish Committee

Jacksons Lane

Recent works on Wentbridge Viaduct saw the village face many challenges as drivers took to backroads while avoiding long queues on the A1. The committee worked alongside National Highways throughout this project and campaigned hard to minimise impact on the village.

While budgets did not allow for large spends on community projects we were able to access the skills and expertise of the main contractor. As such it was agreed that Jacksons Lane would be resurfaced to allow for safe access to Wentbridge Church so the village could use the church for more events in the future.

Jackson Lane was riddled with large potholes and flooded regularly. Now in conjunction with Wakefield Council & Octavius the lane has had significant improvements to drainage and has been resurfaced providing a safe and consistent surface for pedestrian access to the Church.

Dog Waste Bins

Being a very popular spot for walkers accessing Brockadale Wentbridge was lacking in facilities for dealing with dog waste. The Committee has now agreed locations, sourced and installed with ongoing management 3 dog waste bins. One at either end of the village on the Great North Road and one on Jackson Lane just past the Church.

Flood Defences

The River Went regularly floods during heavy rain. The environment agency works to minimise impacts but flood waters can and have reached the road and properties close to the bridge. The Parish Committee has consulted the Environment Agency and purchased a pump and flood bags which are accessible by any resident so that in the event of a flood incident waters can be channeled away from properties and flood waters pumped back into the Went.

HGV Management

Wentbridge is located close to Wentedge Quarry and Industrial Estate. Despite being subject to a an environmental 7.5T limit the management of HGV traffic through the village has been an issue. The Committee has engaged with the quarry and now works alongside the quarry's management to reduce impact and damage to the village HGV's can cause.

Village Events

Alongside residents and the Church the committee helps to organise and run events for the village, from Easter Egg Hunts, Harvest Festivals and Christmas Gatherings.
